Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Eric Jiang ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use Pocket Hanzi (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

• Account information: your email address, used to create and secure your account.
• Learning data: your study progress, saved characters and lists, quiz results, streaks, and the preferences you set during onboarding (such as your level, goals, and daily target).
• Settings: your widget and notification preferences.
• Basic technical data: standard information your device sends when connecting to our servers (such as app version and general error logs), used to keep the App working.
• We do not collect your contacts, photos, or precise location.

How we use your information

• To provide the App and sync your progress across your devices.
• To personalize which characters and lessons you see, based on the goals and level you choose.
• To send the reminders and notifications you turn on.
• To maintain security, prevent abuse, and fix problems.

How your information is stored and shared

• Your data is stored using Supabase, our backend and database provider, on secure servers. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy terms.
• We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
• We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the App.

Data retention and deletion

• We keep your data for as long as your account is active.
• You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete account. This action is immediate and cannot be undone.
• You may also request deletion via the in-app Contact Support form (Settings → Contact Support).

Security

We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections and access controls, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

Children's privacy

The App is intended for learners aged 13 and older. If you are under the age required to consent in your region, please use the App only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect data from children in a way that violates applicable law; if you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. You can manage most of this directly in the App, or contact us for help.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above, and significant changes may be highlighted in the App.
